Our 3rd November guest ...

Our final November guest is Malin Grape - the third place winner of the ARTastic sponsored challenge for Northern Light Scrappers retreat in Sweden with her take on our November inspiration.

Hi there,

I am a crafty kindergarden teatcher of 21 years, residing in northern Sweden. I have been scrapping since 2012. I was introduced to scrapbooking by my boyfriend's cousin, which I also see as a "mentor" and a great role model in the scrapbooking world. I do not think I have a certain style when it comes to scrapbooking but I craft much based on themes and colors I fall in taste. I love to give away scrapbooking works to my loved ones, it is personal and fine.

Our 2nd November guest ...

Let me introduce you to Helena Wikman - the second place winner of the ARTastic sponsored challenge for Northern Light Scrappers retreat in Sweden with her take on our November inspiration.

The entry in this challenge  is created around a photo of my younger son Anton, in the neighbouring village two years ago. He is posing in a field of dandelions. I originally posted this on my Instagram page where I added the black frame. I thought it would be nice to use the horizon in the picture on the layout and expand the feeling of heaven and the ground. I also added a lot of flowers !

Hello!

I’m so happy that I got this guest design spot at ARTastic challenge blog.  I have been scrapbooking for about five years and I’m spending more time at it for each year that goes by. This year I have also started to paint a bit more in acrylics and mixed media style. I do mostly cards but have started to enjoy making layouts more and more, especially since I love to take pictures. Gardening is also a big hobby of mine. I live in the north of Sweden in a house with my fiancée and our two boys who are 10 and 12.

I recently made this layout featuring my brother and his wife prior to their wedding as they were out scouting places to take their wedding-photos with their photographer.

This layout was made of a challenge-sketch and features a photo of my skies. The title translates to ’snowmorning’ which is the title of the poem to the right.

The last layout featuring my other son Johan also out skiing. It was created on the theme of enjoying the outdoors.

You can find my blog here : http://helnysdagbok.blogspot.se

Thank you for joining us this month Helena.  It has been such a pleasure seeing your beautiful work.

Remember ....

You still have time until the end of the month to upload your own take on this challenge.  All details are on the blog sidebar. We'd love to see what you can do with our inspiration this month.

Please pop back on the 28th for our final guest designer for November with her take on our inspiration.

Our 1st November Guest Designer ..

Our DT member Stina Westbom is chairman of the Northern Light Scrappers in Sweden and on the first weekend in October they held a scrapbook convention/retreat for over a hundred scrapping ladies.  One of the challenges set over the weekend was sponsored by ARTastic with some Kaisercraft prizes and those who came first, second and third were offered guest design spots with us in November.

Let me introduce you to Paivi - the first place winner with her take on our November inspiration.

Hi, my name is Päivi and I live with my family in a small town in Sweden. For a very long time, about 20-25 years, I have made my own cards for different occasions but I started with scrapbooking 2009 when I made my first layout. Nowadays I mostly do layouts and cards but also sometimes other projects. Don´t have a name for my scrapbooking style but I guess it is something like "Clean and simple meets mixed media".  I love colors and using colors on my projects, often on white cardstock to really bring out the colors.

Our mid November reveal ...

Welcome to our mid month reveal. We are working with this amazing artwork called Weeds  by Emma Uber.

CRITERIA is the use of FLOWERS on your work

Sadly this month we say goodbye to team member Lesley French who has had to leave our team earlier than expected.  This is also the last month we will have Stina Westbom with us - so sorry to see you go ladies, we will miss you and wish you all the very best in whatever life brings your way.

MARY
I was inspired by the lovely colours of red and Yellow and the flowers of course.

TONE-LILL

Inspired by the field of flowers - all different shapes and colours.

ANNA
I was inspired by the contrasting figure and the layered progression of colour.

STINA
I just loved the colors on this artwork, so I just had to use them on my project. Since the background was so vibrant with colors I chose to have only black on my embellishments.

JANE
I was inspired by the colours in this artwork and the random look of the background with splashes of paint here and there.  I have used a vintage photograph of my mother as a baby - one of very few I have of her as a child.

Now it is your turn, we'd love to see what you can do ...

Remember we happily accept all forms of paper crafting for your entry including digital and encourage international submissions.  All we ask is that you create a new entry for our challenge and you are most welcome to combine with a maximum of two additional challenges.  We offer two prizes determined by team vote and one other prize purely chosen by random draw - so anyone can be a winner regardless of style or level of experience.  You have until 11.55pm on the last day of the month to submit your entry.

Please pop back on the 22nd when we introduce you to the first of our very special November guests.

Sunday 1 November 2015

Well Hello November ...

Welcome  - I have to say that the painting we have for you this month is one of my favourites for this year - It is just so vibrant and colourful.  It is called Weeds and is by Emma Uber - you will find no prettier weeds anywhere !!

CRITERIA is the use of  FLOWERS on your work

A little about Emma Uber

I grew up in Ballarat, Victoria. It is a small and beautiful town but didn’t have a lot going on for me, so I stayed home and painted most of the time.

My parents had a small farm with lots of junk, old sheds and odd bits and pieces lying around. I could always find something to paint on, making my own canvas frames from used pieces and even old window frames. I would paint with any materials I could find.

I approached some small local galleries and my work was rejected… I was told no one would buy my art. Most galleries at that time carried landscapes, still life and abstract art. It was frustrating but I never lost faith in my own work and what I was trying to achieve.

After a few years of feeling like my art wasn’t going anywhere, I decided to set myself a personal challenge and shut myself away in the attic of my parents barn. I painted canvas after canvas, not showing anyone and just letting the ideas flow. This was a significant time for me as an artist, isolating myself and letting anything and everything pour out. I told myself it didn’t matter if the paintings were rubbish or strange or disturbing…. no one would see them, just me.

My style today still has echoes of this process; the dripping paint, layering, painting over old ideas. But mostly I learned to have fun, forget the rest of the world sometimes and just throw some paint around!

And now our gorgeous inspiration from our very talented design team, well the first half of them anyway!

LIZZY
I adored the design and those bright, luscious pops of colour. Just had to use them on my layout!

ELAINE
I have gone with a photo of my parents this month. I picked the colours of the painting as my base colours which suited perfectly with this photo. For my flowers, I have used prima paper flowers and also some handmade flowers which I made using diecuts and punches.

JO
This is a double page for my Art Journal and I was inspired by the colourful flowers in the painting as it reminds me of Summer.

DEB
Taking inspiration from the title of the painting and the colours.

HELENE
I made some white flowers using gesso and a stencil, and stamped black flowers on the background. I also used three different patterned papers with flowers, and some flower rub- ons.

WENDY
I adore Emma Uber’s “Weeds”. Far from weeds, I see a beautiful portrait surrounded by gorgeous coloured flowers. The image is so fresh, and colours are so happy that I decided to scrap myself in a similar situation. I used this photo of myself because it was taken at my youngest son’s graduation, and I think my face shows how happy and proud I was. I blended my face into the background and surrounded myself with flowers and butterflies. Like Uber’s piece, I wanted to look like an integral part of the surroundings.

And now it is your turn ......

Please upload the DIRECT link to your actual entry with the link tool on the LEFT by 11.55pm on November 30th, 2015.  We'd love to see your new paper, digital, mixed media or off the page entries. Why not try doing a pocket page spread?  Please no back-dated submissions.

You may combine our challenge with a sketch and a product/technique challenge (so two additional challenges).  Please include our inspirational picture and challenge details on your blog post as well as provide a link back to us at ARTastic  ... and don't forget to tell us how you were inspired by our challenge.

You may enter more than once in any month as long as each submission is with a different creation.  International entries are very welcome.

Please pop back on the 8th for The ARTastic 3T's - Tips, Tricks and Techniques as well as the announcement of our October winners.
