Welcome to our July guest designer ....

Tracey Campbell with her wonderful take on the challenge for this month.

Hi everyone,  like most of you I am a total scrapbook addict and am thankful for my understanding husband and two cheeky but loveable daughters Bronte and Paige. I work full time in the Navy and show my cats and dogs, so I have to grab my scrapping time when I can. I have been scrapping for around 9 years now, when a friend dragged me to a scrapbooking store for a beginners class....and I was hooked. I love to play with all sorts of materials and products and tend to think my scrapbooking style is eclectic....as I adapt and play with all sorts of styles to suit my photos and what I have on hand. I have always been a messy person so lately my love of multimedia is shining through into my scrapbooking a little bit.

Here is my layout created for this challenge ...

I was inspired by the positions of the stripes on the awning and the beach chair and mirrored that in my layout, by positioning the striped paper in the top left and bottom right corners. When I saw the bold colours with the enhancing black through out the poster I knew that I had to copy this so I chose my papers for their brightness and added the black elements though the title, embellishments and the dribbles of black ink.

And here are two more examples of my work ...

Thanks for inviting me to be the Guest Designer this month and I look forward to seeing what you all create using the fantastic criteria.

Happy Scrapping, Hugs Tracey.

Our Creative Team favourite this month is Di who will receive a little something from me.

And now some final inspiration from our remaining design team using this delightful government advertising poster.  Criteria this month is to use striped pattern paper on your layout.

We would LOVE to see more entries - striped patterned paper and bright cheerful colours - it can't get much easier than that.

I'd like to welcome a new member to our team - Stina Westbom.  Stina hails all the way from Sweden and does the most amazing work - I am sure you will just love what she has to inspire you.  Check out  her blog for more gorgeous inspiration.

I was inspired by the traveling theme and made a layout with my father and son walking together hand in hand through the forest during one of our forest adventures.

Stripes are always such a fresh clean look and the image is so much about holidays.
Next best thing to going on holiday is to enjoy your photos.
See what I played with over on my blog to create random striped paper  for my Destination Sweden layout.

Just a quick page using some of the colours from the poster and the striped patterned paper.

Now we'd love to see your interpretations of our inspiration this month.

Remember we happily accept all forms of paper crafting for your entry including digital and encourage international submissions.  All we ask is that you create an new entry for our challenge although you are most welcome to combine with a sketch and/or colour challenge if you wish.  You have until 11.55pm on the last day of the month to submit your entry.

Next week we will be introducing you to our July guest designer, Tracey Campbell.

July 3T's ...

Welcome to our July round of ARTastic 3T's - Tips, Tricks and Techniques where each month one of our creative team will show you are few quick tips and/or techniques to use on your layouts.  This month we feature team member Maja Stokk and her gorgeous layout from this month.

Hi,  Maja here today =). It´s my turn to inspire you ARTastic readers. First I thought about showing a special technique, but decided to show you step by step how I made my inspiration layout for the July challenge.

Hope you want to join me through my pictures =) So lets begin!

I guess I might be a bit odd, but I start with the flowers. So I chose my flowers, my pic and then some pp to go with this month challenge. Then I added the mediums I wanted to use and last a couple of stencils to go with the mediums.

I start with the background. Use my stencils and two different colors of Gelatos. I smear out the Gelatos with some water. I use my fingers for that work ;). When it´s done and it has dried I take some Shimmeriz texture paint and use it with one of my stencils. Let it dry! or use a heater =) then I used some black India ink and Distress Ink in the color Barn Door. I just let some ink drop in the page here and there and then use a straw and blow on the wet ink.

Now it´s time to use some stamps. For this layout I took my circle stitched stamps from Prima. I stamped so that the circles went from one side to the other on the background paper. Then I started to distress my paper edges and went over the edges with some Distress Ink in the color Barn Door.

When I have come this far it´s time to let the real fun  begin =). I put everything, papers, photo and embellishment on the background paper, without glueing it down, to see that my design works. This process can take a while, any of you that are like me, moving things around on the page like forever! But this was the way I chose to put my embellishment and papers.... and realised that the bottom right corner looked empty, so I had to use my Gelatos, stencils and Inks a little more. The last thing I did was to write my journaling on paper stripes and put it on the page.

And this is how the page turned out!

I love this page Maja - so vibrant and colourful.

Don't forget this month's challenge - details are in the left sidebar.  Remember you have until the end of the month to submit your entry.

It's JULY and it's really special - a joint ARTastic/CSI challenge ...

We have a very exciting challenge for you this month. ARTastic is joining forces with CSI – Color.. Stories.. Inspiration.. to bring you a joint ARTastic challenge and CSI collaboration Case File that will be open on both sites for the entire month of July.

We will be working with this amazing Australian Government promotional travel poster circa 1930. The ARTastic criteria is to use striped patterned paper somewhere on your page.

We're delighted to have some of the CSI design team joining us this month (please see their wonderful layouts on thre right sidebar) and you will see many of the ARTastic team acting as Special Deputies for the month of July over on CSI.

CSI is a weekly challenge designed to inspire scrapbookers to tell their stories and to create beautiful, meaningful pages based on a color scheme and an inspiration image. We want our challenges to inspire you to try new color schemes. We've designed our Case Files to give you a jumping off point and an excuse to shop your stash and possibly rediscover some oldies but goodies gathering dust. And we want our challenges to give you a push to tell your stories. We often hear that journaling is the most difficult part of the scrapbooking process, and we hope that our ideas will put the fun back into storytelling!

CSI encourages scrapbookers to explore the artistic side of scrapbooking while preserving the essential reason we started scrapbooking in the first place--capturing on our pages the bits and pieces—the stories--that make our lives special and meaningful and unique. CSI is all about inspiration and sharing and, most important, fun (with prizes, features, and guest designer opportunities as icing on the cake)! We can't wait to see the stories you'll tell and the art you'll create!

So two challenge blogs and now double the chances of winning for July. Please upload your layout both here at ARTastic and in the CSI Gallery to be eligible for monthly donated prizes on both sites BUT please remember you must include the criteria of striped patterned paper for ARTastic and then the additional case file criteria for CSI on your page.  Of course if you don't wish to play along with CSI you are most welcome just to upload your ARTastic criteria page here with us.

This month we have two main sponsors - each offering a $15 voucher to their stores.

 Julie from Time to Create

and of course every month we also offer a prize pack totally by random draw.

And because this month is special you will get to see most of our creative team in action right now on the first reveal.  Don't worry ... we will still have a few surprises in store for you on the 15th !!

ELAINE
I went with the beach theme and scrapbooked a photo of my girl at the beach. We spend the cooler days at the beach dune boarding or fishing. Followed the colours and elements for CSI which made this page easy to put together.

I used the colors in the inspiration picture and went by the beach theme. I realized when
I started with this page that I don´t have much striped paper... but I finally found a piece that
I could use.  I also followed the criterias over at CSI evidence: stripes, polka dots, distressed edges.
Testimony: documented a vacation, journaling on stripes.

DEB
When I saw the backview of the lady standing on the balcony,   I immediately thought of these photos that I had taken which I had previously considered not scrapping at all.   Also the scallops on the awning prompted me to include some scalloped lace and paper doilies.

I've used the beach idea and the theme from the topper to create a collage, this month (about a hot air balloon race). The background paper, from Fabscraps has been left as it was. The hot air balloons have been cut from different papers and finished with washi tape, ribbon or braid.Colours used all come from the inspiration poster.

I’ve used red striped paper as matting. I was inspired by the beach scene and clear blue sky –so typically Australian. I like the poster so I tried to do my layout like a poster as well.

The Seaside inspiration photo made me "dig out" some more photos from Cornwall and the beach in the background reminded me of the beach in St.Ives.  since ARTastic are having a combined challenge with CSI this month it was just to follow the colour swatch, and some old October Afternoon papers had just about the right colours

Some water play while on vacation.  Lots of layering and the use of paint.

I went for the vacation theme and used a photo of me and my girls playing tour guides to friends. I have used stripes, glitter, scallops and the colours that reflect the painting.

I just loved the colours in this poster - so vibrant and carefree.  I've used scallops and polka dots, added in a little bird and used photographs from a summer vacation from a few years ago.

Please upload the DIRECT link to your actual entry with the link tool on the LEFT by 11.55pm on July 31st, 2014. We'd love to see your new paper, digital, or off the page entries.  Please no back-dated submissions.  You may combine with a sketch and/or colour/technique challenge and international entries are always welcome.   Remember we are Australian based so you need to allow for the different time zones - if in doubt check our clock.

Please pop back on the 8th for The ARTastic 3T's - Tips, Tricks and Techniques brought to you this month by our wonderfully creative team member, Maja Stokk.  I am sure she will inspire you.
